Another finish...and Wedding Gifts

I forget to share a few other photos of finishes. This first photo is one I finished a couple days ago and it goes to Son and DIL to hang for Christmas Holiday Time.

DIL likes "circles" for quilting.

For weddings I always make a "Christmas Bag" of assorted Christmas goodies. No matter when the wedding is, I do this - always have, always will. Below are the assorted goodies I put in our niece's Wedding Christmas Present this summer when we attended her wedding in August.

And today - Treadmill done, doggie doo detail done (say that ten times, LOL), bed made, two cups of coffee and cereal done....and now for a shower and fresh PJs for a day in my sewing room.

Oh my word, been awhile again since I posted. But, I've been a busy girl so here goes:

Finished DD's black satin dress: Blogger isn't cooperating today. Sorry about the turning.

Ruching at fitted waistline with design done in Bernina Software.

Bottom design that I chose to compliment other design.

Gave son and DD their quilt a couple weeks ago: Same free pattern from Moda Bake Shop as this one.

Why is there a bump under that upper right cotner?

Well, look who peaked out...LOL

I love the backing on this one - alot !

And what is on the table now? Three blocks already appliqued, ready to quilt. They'll each be roughly 12" square. Have to quilt them and decide how to embellish them.

Before & After Wieght Loss

This is somewhat of a tough post to do but I've learned to be REAL about my weight - for me.

I thought I'd show some "BEFORE" and "AFTER" weight loss photos of me. I have been fotunate enough to maintain my weight loss and am continuing to do so.

The 2 pics below are me at a shameful 202 pounds in November 2010. I am 5'5 ...or two hairs under...LOL

I started my weight loss journey mid January of this year. I joined Weight Watchers then and diligently kept on their points system for a couple months...until....Candace turned me onto Livestrong. I have been faithful to Livestrong since. I still attend WW meetings but solely for individual and group support. I am now a free member for life after having reached my personal goal weight.

WW put my goal weight at 150 pounds. I reached 150 lbs in five months. But, me being me, was not happy with that goal so I asked to be reset at 145 lbs. Done. I continued to lose and now stay at or around 140 pounds. But, I have reset a new goal for myself - 134 lbs by Christmas. And since I have typed it on my blog, I will give it every effort possible.

So here ya go - AFTER photos...of the summer wedding of a niece .

I have gone from a VERY TIGHT size 16W jeans (some 18s) to a VERY comfortable size 6 jeans, and a slightly tight size 4...jeans.

I have gone from a size 2XL in tops to a size Small...(medium if I chose even loser fitting).

That's my story and I'm STICKING WITH IT.

Giving It a Try

We All Sew has launched a new sewing blog today so I thought I'd try to "launch" myself...LOL I'm also trying Blogger's new interface to type this post.First and foremost - I'd like to say thank you for so many kind and considerate thoughts from so many bloggers when I took sick. Family and friends mean so much and you all are simply the BEST ! Mary of Quilt Hollow was so kind in posting such a thoughtful post. Mary - you're so sweet. Hugs.Uh oh, does this mean I'll be posting again? You bet !! As time permits. I have SO much to share, to show and to read. Please bare with me as I find my way back to the friendly world of blogging.Here's a quilt I finished and gave to DD just yesterday. She put it on our grandson's bed. (now to load a pic since it's been ions since I've done one)

It's actually a quilt from Moda Bake Shop that is a queen but DD liked it's size for Ty's bed. And it wouldn't be complete without a pic of one of Weimers. Here's Lily at DD's house visiting her doggies as I delivered the quilt yesterday.

One Day Winner

I really don't like to post without atleast ONE photo so I'm going to start sharing "past" things I've made when I don't have anything recent I can share. In this photo is a Lazy Girl purse I had made for our DGD, Katie in 2007. I used the foam in the ladybug to create the 3D effect on the black spots as well as the feet when embroidering. Kelli is raising Katie right - she's a purse-aholic like her Mommy and Mimi....LOL

I LOVE sewing/embroidering/quilting and just about any craft that is available. Kelli (DD) has now outdone her Mom in crocheting. She crochets so beautifully - I will share the pic of a purse she made me this past Christmas in another post.

How many of you still cross stitch? Yes, I still love cross-stitch too, even if it is from the 80's,,LOL Below is one I made while living in Cairo, Egypt. It was framed by a wonderful Egyptian there. (As many of you know, I "do" Christmas year-round.)

Okay, enough "past" things....sorry for rambling but it's SEW good to be back to Blogland. I'm still having to do a couple strange things to be able to post and upload pics but I'm "working it".

One Day - Barefoot in the Park Pattern

I was so honored when Stephanie of Loft Creations asked me to be one of her "Supremes". What, you may ask, is a Supreme. It is someone that test stitches one of Stephanie's wonderful patterns before it becomes available to the public.

I believe that most know Stephanie as the talented handbag/tote pattern maker that she is. But, she now is designing quilts!! And I was so fortunate to be able to test stitch her very first one, "Barefoot in the Park". (so sorry but blogger will NOT allow this photo to turn properly but atleast now I can upload a photo.)

And not only does this fabulous quilt pattern have one beautiful side but the back, as pictured below is just as beautiful.

I'd love to share this beauty quilted but DD went camping this afternoon and she has laid claim to it.

I don't know how you store your dies but it's best to store them on end as the picture below shows. The reason for this is so that the weight of other dies does not bend the blades. Here is my stash of GO dies:

A Natural "High"...

...That's what I was on today - A Natural "High". And pictured below is why:
This is a FIRST for me - EVER !!! And it may never happen again.

Yes, you ARE reading the treadmill's screen correctly. It took me 142.24 minutes to do 10 miles and burn 1763 calories. No running, just fast-paced walking, mostly at 4.2 and 4.3 after my quarter mile warm up and then half a mile cool down. I fugure this may be a "Once in a Lifetime" so I had to take a photo.

And that lead to my WW's weigh-in today. Check out my sidebar to see the update!
Which means a One Day is in order. I'm so excited I'm posting the One Day now and the winner will still be announced Wednesday morning when I boot up my computer.

Here's what I made last night to offer: 4 Zip-It bags, 2 wallet size Zip-Its (roughly 8" by 5") and 2 - what they refer to as a Gadget Pouch size (roughly 10" by 9").

Absent but not idle

Murphy woke up sick today. He just doesn't want to eat so I've kept him bundled in blankets.

And while Murphy is trying to get better...

...although being fairly absent from blogging, I haven't been idle.

Stephanie from Loft Creations has kindly asked me to be one of her Supremes. What, you ask, is a Supreme? It is someone who stitches one of Stephanie's wonderful creative patterns before it is released to the public. Below is a sneak peak of the pattern that Stephanie is diligently working on for release soon. It is DEFINITELY fun !! Go here for some wonderful patterns by Stephanie.

And below is something else that I have been working on for the house.

Although Blogger keeps turning the photo below, I wanted to share what I believe are the best rulers around: OLFA FROSTED, non-slip rulers. They're currently on sale at Connecting Threads. It is unbelievable how you're able to read all the ruler's markings on both light AND dark fabrics. YES - even dark fabrics !!

I want to share something else I received in the mail this weekend. Candace from Squash House Quilts turned me onto something that I will start immeditely using: Leader Grips. Instead of pinning quilts, you use the Leader Grips as expertly demonstrated by Manquilter. His video is worth watching if you have a longarm. This will definitely save time pinning.

And these last two photos are "WHY" I've been so absent from Blogland.
I'm not eatting the cookies on the left anymore - but the fruits on the right.

I'm not drinking my favorite pop on the left anymore but atleast 6 bottles of the H-2-O on the right.

Yes, time spent away from sewing and blogging is spent working on "me" - a "better me" by eatting better and exercising. As many of you have read a couple posts ago, I'm following Debi's lead and for every ten pounds lost I will host a One Day.I have put a weight tracker on my sidebar so you know when the next ten pounds is getting close. I update it once a week.

18" Doll Jammies

Finished DGD's two sets of 18" doll jammies today.

Close-up of one of the robes. All little garments are serged and double stitched at underarms so little people can dress their dolls without any problem areas.

Will see DGD in a couple hours...do you think I might get another hug? LOL

Doll Sleeping Bags

Two 18" doll sleeping bags.

Even though the fabric used is double-sided quilted fabric, I still lined both in white so there are no raw edges to get caught up in the zippers. The zippers go down one side and across the bottom. Shown below is how, even though the pillows can lift, they are attached, completely machine washable and dryable. The appliqued hearts are cut using the GO.

When delivered to DGD this morning, she immediately put her two dolls in them. I did get MORE than one hug....LOL....and "that" makes any Grandma happy.

SNEAK PEAK:

Hearts cut with the GO. I save ALL my fused scraps. So I can just go to my fused scrap bin and pick a small piece of fabric to run through the GO. I rarely have any waste because there's always a "smidgen" I can use from the scrap bin.

Hubby is home officing this week and tonight we're having a "date", picking up the neighbors to go out to dinner - nothing fancy.

So tomorrow hopefully I can finish my "detour".

Ah, yes, the dreaded treadmill that I asked hubby to get me for Christmas. And he did. He doesn't always give me what I ask for. What does this mean? LOL

SFTH at the Phoenix Show

Hubby was kind enough to take me to the Phoenix Quilt/Sew/Craft show yesterday at the Phoenix Fairgrounds. I hadn't been in a few years.

Sarah's "Stars" table topper. GO dies available. The reason Sarah always has so many of her beautiful creations at SFTH is because she lives locally and even teaches there.

SFTH always has the latest and greatest Bernina sewing machines set up for all to sample. Look at these awesome JUMBO samplers made simply using the JUMBO hoop for the Bernina 830 Embroidery Machine.

It's deceiving....the black is simply a cut piece of fabric the shape of the JUMBO hoop and then the design is stitched in black on a piece of white fabric and the fabrics are then put together. It looks SO beautiful !!

This is Susie Parker (on the left), a VERY talented seamstress and owner of Sew From The Heart, my favorite Bernina Shop.

SFTH also has FANTASTIC garment seamstresses. Barb Grace (in red - bending over) is such a talent, always sharing her knowledge of sewing garments.

This is a pattern that I will be ordering. They ran out of it the first day.

Catching Up

I have had Bernina Designer Plus software since I purchased my first Bernina. However I've never taken a software class to learn the vast capabilities of this wonderful software. What I do know is strictly self-taught.

That all changed this past Saturday. I spent 6 hours in a class with an absolutely phenomenal teacher. There was no need to take machines, just your laptop. And THAT is why I wanted a laptop this past December from hubby....to start taking software classes.

Yesterday, I took my second class called "Software Sampler". This was the first of a monthly series that will be offered at Sew From the Heart. What I learned was just "over the top" !! Every month will be dedicated to learning a new technique/feature of the software.

January's class was dedicated to learning how to digitize a scanned shape and turning it into an embroidery applique. Oh my word - can you just imagine the possibilities? All the more reason I love the fact that I have a GO. Yes, I WILL be digitizing my favorite GO applique die:

I also wanted to share about a new product that OESD has come out with: "Fast & Fuse Cut Away Embroidery Stabilizer" for applique. We were able to see this new stabilizer "in action" and it's fantastic. What makes this stabilizer unique is that it is "repositional" time and again. No need to tack it down with 505 or anything. It is sticky enough to stay where you want it - even after repositioning it several times. And it goes through your printer with no problem whatsoever.

Wish I didn't have to clean and run errands today. BUT....there WILL be laptop play time later!

This is not Tucker...

But this Doggie Coat is FOR Tucker as modeled by our Lily.

For as long as I've sewn (LOTS of years), my brother has never asked me to make or mend anything..ever. So when he phoned last night (he lives in New York) and asked if I could make Tucker, his wonderful doberman, a winter coat there was no way I'd say no. Besides, for me it's fun to make something "different", out of the norm.

I headed to my stash and pulled out a cotton black and white dog fabric along with some single-sided prequilted fabrics and went to work designing today.

I had to cut each piece of the print individually so the print would face the same way. And of course, it had to have Tucker's name on it. Can you see where the piece goes under Lily's chest, up and through buttonholes to fasten on her back?

Here is a view to try to show you the buttonholes that the straps go through to round up to Tucker's back to velcro together.

Lace Cardigans complete

The two 18" doll lace cardigans are complete.
Here are the pieces before I put one of them together:

And here the two after completed. I sewed one together by hand and then used a very narrow zigzag stitch on the other. I used Vilene to embroider the lace and let them stand in warm water for about an hour afterwards to make sure they were soft enough. Needless to say - no more "by hand". LOL (I had this little mannequin for a few years and it's a "perfect" 18" doll size. Too bad they don't make mannequins "my" size. LOL

Last but not least - my Little Quilt-Mini Quilt-Mug Rug turned into a Little quilt for my kitchen wall. (I like to change quilts out periodically)

GO dies.....on order

I LOVE my Accuquilt GO. I feel so fortunate to own it. Just having it for little things like my two latest projects is wonderful.

I just placed an order with Kelly Jackson of I Have A Notion (IHAN) for the Sarah Vedeler Sparkle collection. I love what Sarah designs. And, best of all, she is one of "our" own from Sew From the Heart, my favorite Bernina store.

Here's a link to two of the items that are wonderful and made with the dies.

There are no dies out for Sarah's Heart CD, which I purchased at Sew From the Heart quite some time ago but I also ordered the special silk fabric today from Kelly to do the Heart Quilt.

This is totally out of the "norm" for me as far as colors, but I just love the Heart Quilt.

Little Quilts - can they be Mug Rugs? Seems to me that they could be. Or is it "Mini Quilts" that can be Mug Rugs? Well, whichever it is, I'm hooked. I love to make Little Quiits for all occasions. You can hang them anywhere and it's so easy to interchange them. This one measure 12" square.

The solid white on the bigger heart is embroidered as is my name.

I used more scraps I had on hand. Hubby has always wondered why little scraps should be saved...I won't go there...LOL

This line is "Love is The Air" by Deb Strain. I believe it may be last year's Valentines Day line she came out with. The back is pieced from pieces. The hearts were cut with my GO Heart Die. And the biggest heart (white print) is from an acrylic template I have had for years (5 in the set ).

I started out thinking a Mug Rug was in order today but............

First Mug Rug

My first "mug rug":

Overall measurements: 14.5" by 8.75"
Paperpieced inset measurement: 4" square
Appliqued pumpkin: Cut with Accuquilt GO
Fabric: Remnants of "Gobble Gobble" by Sandy Gervais

Many have asked what a "mug rug" is. It's a little quilt, that one can use to set a mug of your favorite drink on along with a small treat (chocolate would be a good choice..LOL).

They're smaller than placemats but bigger than a coaster. Just the perfect size for setting a little something to snack on. No patterns required, no requirements in size or shape - just "push go" and see what you come up with like I did.

This thoughtful table topper gift arrived for my birthday from Mary. I think she knew "my" colors because this definitely will be used on the table between hubby's and my living room chairs. I don't quite know if I'll allow hubby to put his drink on it though...LOL...it's too precious to me and he does have a tendency to "spill". LOL

That little "thing" in the corner is a gift certificate to Starbucks. I always tease Mary that we need to take a run for coffee. Being that we live at opposite parts of the US, that might not ever happen.................???

This fun, fun glass ornament is NOT edible. It looks so much better on my tree than it would on my hips. Look at those darling cupcakes under the dome...oh my word - I think YOU ALL know I HEART ornaments. I make them year round.

Thank you Mary for this special treat. Our friendship snuck up on me and in no time at all, I found myself attracted to your wit and humor. I am blessed by you time and again.

Below is a fun surprise from Stephanie. Oh my goodness, that's a wonderful doggie rope toy that she made for my Murphy, Molly and Lily. The girls have taken "control" of the new tug toy. Here is where Stephanie gives directions on making this fun doggie treat.

I have been trying to do a bit of catch-up but find that something has to give.
Well, I guess you can tell by the photos below, my "sewing" is not budging - but the house dust bunnies do seem to be accumulating. LOL Thank goodness I have a "Kelli" to tackle those dust bunnies.

Here is what the last couple days has produced: 40+ embroidered lace ornaments. They're all on papertowel drying.

The photos below are the steps on how I am putting together the doilies.

1. I keep the the wedges on soluble until all 14 wedges are sewn together.

2. I wanted to show you the comparison in sizes. The white measures at roughly 17 1/2" and the green measures roughly 24".

3. Thought you might be able to see the white one a little better as I'm dipping it in luke warm water. Note how that white soluble is "disappearing".

4. The soluble stabilizer is almost gone.

5. I lay them flat on white paper towel and pat dry with another paper towel.

6. Close up of the white one as it is now flat.

7. And you'll probably be able to see the green better here. After a couple minutes on the first papertowel, I put them on more dry papertowels to finish drying overnight.

I already have the centers cut out and embroidered with the date on what will be the wrong side. The "right side" center will not have any design on it. As soon as I finish sewing the centers on, I'll be sure and post a final photo.

Hostess Gift

The hostess gift I made yesterday morning for last night's dinner. One embroidered snowman ornament and a set of four coasters.

The four coasters are from the line "Snow Village" by Sentimental Studios for Moda.

It takes 6 charms per coaster along with the batting. This is a fast and super-easy gift.

I was on a sewing whirlwind for about three weeks making this, that and the other...when

2 1/2 weeks ago Dad passed away so we made a whirlwind flight to Buffalo, NY (our hometown, Olean, is about an hour south). Saw friends/relatives I haven't seen in years which was quite nice.

Got back, put some things away - "tried" to start sewing again but had too much to prepare for Thanksgiving so sewing was put on hold again.

Then - got a phonecall from Son-in-law - "Need you to come over NOW!!"
I do as I'm told - especially when it's NOW! Kelli was playing with the dogs in the yard and ran into corrigated sheet metal. She gashed her forehead badly. Jeremy took her to the ER and she came out with 13 stitches. Less than 1/2 inch more and she'd have lost her eye.

BUT - here's the "kicker"......................as Jeremy is bringing her home from the ER, she calls to check on the grandkids and says to me "Mom, don't worry, SCARS build character". That's Kelli - putting a "good spin" on everything. So when we took holiday pics on Thanksgiving, she had some "character"...we all giggled.

I finished 14 doggie ornaments the day before Thanksgiving for all the dogs the family has (had). I didn't get a pic of them all together, but here's a pic of a few:

Here are two "sets" of wedges now ready to put together. Each set has 14 wedges. The smaller white wedges take just over 80 minutes per wedge to stitch out while the bigger green wedges each take over 100 minutes to stitch out. I'll get them together this week and share a photo. They're still on the Water Soluble Stabilizer until I sew a center medallion for them.

And what's on the sewing table?

More embroidered ornaments - getting sewn together to give to everyone.

More lace ornaments ready to dip in warm water and lay on paper towels to dry.

Grocery Bags and Ornaments

While the embroidery machine was humming again today, I did a little sewing, starting with this:

Then I "tweaked" the pattern a little and came up with a version I like better:

The tweaking was a bigger pocket and a slightly different cutting for the binding placement.

Wanted to show you how there are "tucks" exactly like the Grocery Store plastic bags.

I did French side seams so there are no raw edges. And the inside bottom is also encased in binding.

Appears to be a double handle when all it really is - how you fold it when sewing. I have to admit - I had to read the instructions a couple times (or more..LOL) to understand how it would go together.

Now that I've made a couple, revised the pattern to my liking, I KNOW more are on my sewing horizon.

And as I said above, my embroidery machine was humming...

I put three icicles on H2Gone water soluble stabilizer. It took 128 minutes to stitch out. I ended up making 9 icicles in all yesterday.

And to top off the embroidery part of my day, I played with a tree sample. Sometimes I end up liking samples so they become "keepers".

See how I will piece together left over stabilizer to "reuse" for another embroidery project?

I'd like to alert you all to TWO wonderful tutorials that Judy from Sewabout Quilting has on the Rose of Sharon GO die. See them on her blog post here. Judy is an excellent teacher and her first two You Tube videos are very informative. Her second You Tube video was SENSATIONAL about making a template for the Rose of Sharon die.

And if they wasn't all, Judy also shared a tutorial on "The 15 Minute Microwave Baked Potato Bag".

I just knew Judy had wonderful things in store for us all. And, did you all know, that Judy is a breast cancer survivor? She is remarkable in SO many ways.

Thank you Judy, I have admired you from the first day I "happened" upon you at our favorite Bernina shop, Sew From the Heart. You've been an inspiration to me ever since.

Wedges...rounding out nicely.

This weekend I've had two embroidery machines humming....I have 14 "wedges" stitched out on OESD's Aqua Mesh stabilizer ready to put together today.

Each wedge takes 80 minutes to stitch out; however I do not run my embroidery machines at 100% speed, only about 70%. And I do not dissolve the stabilizer until I stitch the wedges together. THEN - I make a center medallion.

Here's one I did last year:

I would like to do a "fancier" center medallion this year. Maybe an embroidery on the center? Just not sure.

Any Suggestions?

Schnibble's Paganini...only bigger

Schnibble's Paganini is the first "Le Petite" monthly item to be done.
It is in line to be quilted, behind a couple others.
I used 4 charm packs instead of 2, as the pattern calls for so instead of 16 blocks, I ended up with 32. This measures 65" square with the borders.

The fabric is "Charity" of Collection for a Cause by Howard Marcus for Moda.

I already have the binding ready. It is the "golden" thinner border.

I'm so sorry, I'm behind on blog reading and emails. Hubby has been home on vacation all week so I haven't been at the computer as much this week.

Denim Bag, RAK and scraps

Here is what I'm working on: Denim bags from used jeans. Old jeans from the grandkids make an excellent source for bags, both girls and boys jeans. For the next denim bag I'll be using a pair of DGD's jeans that have "hearts" as back pockets. These are SO much fun to make! I think the most fun is deciding how to embellish each bag.

What's the old saying? "What goes around comes around". Back in the 70's I was making denim bags. Now recently I made Kelli a denim short skirt from a pair of her jeans (sorry - forgot to take a pic) and now back to denim bags. I'm loving the renewed DENIM interest.

Adding lining with a zippered pocket is no big deal. The lining here matches the tie around the waste. The leg becomes the bottom of the bag. And the handles are pink, purchased locally.

Do you remember these plastic shoe boxes from a few months ago? Well, I've been steadily adding selvages and now I have two BULGING shoe boxes of selvages. Hmmmm...what to do, what to make, what to create....Hmmmm.

Gobble Gobble in the House

I started some HSTs yesterday and even cut the 2" squares for the Schnibble's Paganini that needs to be done by the beginning of November to work on today. (top half of photo)

Then - I started hopping @ the Designer Fall-O-Ween blog hop and - OOPS - got distracted to do Sandy Gervais's free project she shared today. So I started cutting from my left over pieces of my Gobble Gobble jelly roll.

As usual, I did mine a little bit different, only because I wanted it a little bit bigger.
And - it's completed, in an afternoon. Now to wash it to soften it up.

I'm hoping that you'll join me in making Judy of Sewabout Quilting feel welcome in blogland. Judy is a wonderful, talented and sweet lady. She is the first sewing/quilting Friend I made when we moved to Arizona in 2002. We met and became friends at our favorite Bernina shop that I have mentioned so many times, Sew From the Heart.

Judy is the reason why I attempt anything on the Handiquilter. Judy not only does wonders with the longarm, she is an incredible teacher at the shop. She can easily find her way around software and even digitizes. I do believe many of us will see her work her magic with the GO dies. She already owns one. Read here.

I pulled two sets of three FQs each from my stash yesterday:

These tiny totes measure 5" by 6" and are all lined. They will be filled with candies to hand out to special "Little People" that come knocking (and probably some big people too. LOL)

GO Scrappy with Dresden and 1" Strip Dies

I had a delivery last week from Brown delivering these:
The Dresden Plate Die and the 1" Strip Dies from Accuquilt.

I think most of you now know how much I enjoy my GO. I find I use it more and more, combining dies to come up with new ideas.

The dies do not come with markings so GO get a sharpie to mark your dies.

And inside each die, a pattern is enclosed for your use:

Yes, I marked my dies now. I wanted to point something out to you on the Dresden Plate die" On the ROUNDED PETAL ONLY, a 2 1/2" jelly roll strip is easily used. However, you cannot use the jelly roll strip on the POINTEED PETALS, they're about a a 1/4" wider at the top.

Today is Scrappy Day - pulling solely from my scrap drawer. Some of you might have seen some of these fabrics before from other projects.

Please note how I didn't have to accurately "precut" pieces of fabric - I TOTALLY just pulled from my scrap drawer and layed those pieces on my die with no rhyme or
reason to how they were placed.

I put the long GO mat on top and start to turn the handle which is very easy.

Don't be worried if your mat raises up while it's passing through the GO. That's quite normal. Mats can be used on both sides and also turned around to get a longer life out of them.

Once your die has completed gone through the GO, the fabric has a tendency to cling to the mat as you lift it off. For this reason, it's smarter to SLIDE your mat off which allows your cut pieces to stay in place.

Yes, all my pieces stayed on the die because I SLID my mat off.

And after I lift the scraps off my scraps (a little funny there...), all I have left are my perfectly cut Dresden Plate pieces.

At times you might have strings left where the blades are as shown below. All you have to do is take the pic that Accuquilt includes in your GO package and "pic" those threads right out...no problem.

And to get other loose threads off your die, just use a lint roller brush and POOF - you have a clean die once more.

I always starch and iron my fabrics:

Now to make the Dresden Plate:
I am GOing to make the Pointed Petal Dresden. You have to fold the long side of your piece, right sides together. Then stitch the longer of the two short ends together using 1/4" seam. And don't foget to cut the "folded" corner off. (VERY important for later).

This is ALSO important - next you'll need to press your sewn pieces into points. Do NOT open your seam, press it to one side as you iron.

Here's the right side for you look at:

When sewing your Pointed Petals, start at the sewn edge, but start 3/8" down. Trust me on this one - it makes for a much nicer seam, and no threads to be seen. In the photo below I even showed you BEFORE I cut off my threads.

I'm ready to pin my Fan to my 8" piece of fabric.

I only want to make a 1/4 circle because I'm not making a FULL Dresden at this time. And I have to admit, I did not follow Accuquilt's directions on this part. As many of you know, LOL, I do "GO" on my own quite often. I folded the four inch cicle cut from the die in half and sew 2/3 of the way down and then cut darts out so I can turn neatly.

I place it on my fan which is on my background fabric and cut off the bottom of that half circle that is not part of the block.

I machine Blanket stitch around the petals and the circle. It's nice that wherever I am blanket stitching, there are no raw edges.

Now to the 1" Strip Die: Again, I just pull from my scrap drawer and lay pieces on the die. I'm not worried about lining them up any certain way because they're just all scraps anyways.
PLEASE NOTE FROM ACCUQUILT: The 1" Strip Die does NOT cut 7 one inch strips as advertised. The die cuts 5 one inch strips. Accuquilt is curtainly changing their information on this die.

I plan on strip piecing - scrappy style - on a piece of muslin.

And here it is neatly trimmed and ready to sew into a pillow. Aren't those strips PERFECT? I'm loving this!!!

Here are my Dresden quarter plate and my 1' Stripped piece sewn with a backing before turning to stuff into pillows.

Both little pillows are complete and ready to add to the decor in the living room.

And this is where they now reside. (Yes, you'll see some of the fabrics even in the tablerunner...LOL)

This Log Cabin Little Quilt measures 21" square and is on our kitchen island for a touch of "Fall". Completed a couple days ago. I used a circular feather quilt motif in the center and meandered in the outer border.

I think the photo below says it all. I followed Gudrun and other designers in their Christmas 2009 Designer Blog Hop and enjoyed all the wonderful hints, suggestions and patterns that they shared. Please, join in the fun with me again this Fall. You won't regret it.

GOing to get a new ironing board cover:

Hmm...which 12" block should I choose from all the free ones on Accuquilt.

I chose "Diamond Star" which uses four dies:
# 55006...Quilt Block "B"...3 1/2" square
# 55002...Quilt Block "D"...4 7/8" triangle
# 55009...Quilt Block "E"...3" finished triangle
# 55019...Quilt Block "F"...4 3/4" Square

Look how the GO cuts off the dog ears to make your pieces fuss-free

I fold the pattern in half to find center..then match it up with center of block...

I want to sew two buttonholes in the other side of the ironing board cover, making my cover reversible so I press some fusible denim where I will place the two buttonholes BEFORE I sew the top and bottom together....

I sew the two pieces together, inserting ties near the front and the middle of the cover before I stitch around the outside of the two fabric pieces. I leave a small portion open to turn. Turned it right side out, stitched my opening shut and then stitched 3/4" away from the edge. Because I stitched that distance away from the edge, I am able to insert my tie ribbon (some may choose elastic) through the buttonholes.

Voila !!! I have a reversible ironing board cover - completely washable. My ties are Twill tape.

Underneath the ironing board - showing you all three ties. The rear tie is inserted through the ENTIRE casing through the buttonholes. I like twill tape rather than elastic because I can pull it as tight as I want.

A close up of "JUST FUN" stitching. I cross hatched the "main" quilt with beige thread. Then I used Autumn variegated thread to do the "crazy" stitching on Mr. Gobble's body and his feathers. Back to beige thread to "crazy" stitch his head.

This used one charm pack of Gobble Gobble by Sandy Gervais. Her Fall line from last year. This measures 26 1/2" square.

This tabletopper takes one charm pack and there are six charms left over. It measures 21 1/2" by 24 1/2", all done today. Some this morning, some this afternoon. I did the quilting on my Bernina 630 and did the binding by machine.

A touch of Fall and a Christmas ONE DAY.

I should have told you yesterday what DD sings. She plays guitar and piano, although guitar in the band. They play country, rock (not hard rock), oldies and pop. DD is the only one who sings. Growing up, she won numerious awards singing.,, from elementary through High School. When we lived in Cairo, Egypt, DD (in high school at the time) was picked as one of only two Altos chosen to sing in a special group that traveled to Dubai. She's done numerous engagements.

My Christmas Apron

Thought I'd share a close-up of the Christmas Apron I made yesterday.
Here it is laid out flat.

The back is a "criss-cross" from over the shoulders going to the side of the apron and then tieing in the back. I tried to show you the way it is "supposed" to tie in this photo.

However I like to wrap my ties around to the front so I made them quite a bit longer than what was called for.

I lined the apron as well as the pocket and cut the ruffle strip twice as long. I don't like any raw edges showing.

The hummers' photo is blurry, sorry - but wanted to show you what is RIGHT outside my window as I sew. This morning there are a couple dozen flying all around.

Stephanie from Loft Creations surprized me with a RAK this past weekend. She sent me a darling doggie fabric keyfab that I adore. It is already on my keychain.Sure makes finding my keys in my handbag alot easier. And Stephanie knows my love of dogs.

I do believe this is a great idea to make for gifts for Christmas. Because I know when DD and DIL see this cute one, they'll put in a request for one..LOL

Jelly Roll Blocks Together

The Jelly Roll Quilt Along blocks are now put together. The top measures 70 by 55. I have enough of the inner border fabric to use for the binding. That fabric can also be seen in each block.

OH NO - I've NEVER had more than two quilt tops lined up to quilt on the HQ. I now have SIX tops waiting. My HQ is in hubby's (my quilt top holder) office.....or should I say the space he's allowed in that room? LOL He's been home officing for two and a half weeks so he's really throwing my agenda off...LOL And, he's home tomorrow. So - I look forward to Tuesday.

This arrived at my house one week ago from Accuquilt. I have no idea how, why or when but I was notified by Carolyn of Accuquilt that my blog was chosen to receive a free GO and three dies of my choice.

GO GO GO GO GO

Drunkard's Path Die and mat. The other two dies I ordered are the new Dresden Plate die and the new 1" strip die coming out next month. Yes, Accuquilt was kind enough to say that they would send me these two dies when they're available.

Here is the fabric on the die after GOing through the GO - and before I lift up any scraps from around the shapes

Now the scraps are lifted - see how LITTLE waste there was - that small pile above the die is all that there was....How cool is that?

NOTE - what Accuquilt included in this die - that "point" to line up the middle of the two shapes to sew the Drunkard's Path block. Is that AWESOME or what?

Because of that little "point" I was able to pin my pieces accurately and easily from the middle out.

Made my sewing of the curve GO smoothly.

Ah ha - IDEA! Why not use another GO die to embellish this Christmas tabletop? I've already purchased additional dies. This is the Holiday Medley Die.

I fused paperback on some white fabric AND NOTE how I ONLY covered the Snowflake area that I want to cut. No need to waste anymore fabric over other shapes.

I'm lined up and ready to GO. BUT NOTE - I "ANGLE" this die since it's smaller. I also learned from the many wonderful free videos at Accuquilt to angle the dies which is better for the blades that are down in that foam area.

There she GOes again....

And look at these beautiful, totally perfect snowflakes, ready to fuse on my tabletopper.

And here is my tabletop that I made ALL in one morning - I still have time to quilt and bind it today.

Is this not the coolest thing GOing? I am in total awe of my new toy. I'm GOing forward with many projects so stay tuned for additional tutorials using the GO.

Schnibble's "Plan C" top is complete but won't be put on the longarm until next week. I used "Harvest" by Judie Rothermel and Old Sturbridge Village for Marcus Fabrics. The charm packs only contain 24 charms and I used two. This time I chose not to do the pieced border - instead going with more traditional borders. The smaller 3/4" border is a brown that picks up the darker color in the stars.

Friday and Saturday I will be attending Sew From the Heart's "Beat the Heat" two day sewathon. I'll be arriving about 9:30 Friday morning and we sew as late as we'd like. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served as well as lots of snacks....CHOCOLATE !!! Then hubby set me up at the closest Marriott - YES - a king size bed all to myself! When I get up Saturday morning I'll head back over to the shop for another day of sewing til I drop. I haven't gone in two or three years.

FIRST.........On August 12th I will be having my two year Blogversary...I am going to a two day sewing extravaganza, "Beat the Heat", on the 13th and 14th, at my favorite Bernina Shop, Sew From The Heart in Scottsdale, so I have to have my Blogoversary ONE DAYS prior to that. So, starting tomorrow, for three days, you'll want to stop back each day to enter the ONE DAY. Yes, there will be three separate ONE DAY giveaways.

SECOND........to GO on with the news......I was notified this past week of a very special item arriving at my house on Wednesday. And soon, this very special item will be GOing to someone who reads this blog.

A little sewing, Alot of GOing

This is the last of the 12 Jelly Roll Quilt Along blocks. Tomorrow I believe different options will be available to put them all together. Although, I pretty much know what I'll be doing already.

And my GOing...the Accuquilt GO cut long lengths of 2 1/2 strips today for the Nine Patch Celebration Exchange. We have to make 78, 2-color Nine Patches.

830 House Call

My 830 machine didn't have a major issue. After picking her up after her yearly tune-up, the needle was two clicks to the right. Okay, I still sewed with her and called the tech and he said "no problem, I'll be up your way and will stop by on my way back down to Scottsdale."

My favorite Bernina Shop, Sew from the Heart, had sent one of their very capable techs up to Prescott Valley to do some training at the Bernina Shop there. After the end of the two day training, the tech stopped by my house to do a house call on my 830.

Keith took the 830 apart and in no time had the needle carriage back to normal.

And....she's back to her old self again...

AND....he installed new needle threaders on my 430 and 630.

All this......and no charge. I do love "my" Bernina Shop.

Half Apron Times Three

Do I wear one this week for house cleaning?
These were cut out the end of last week. And today I made all 3.

I only lined the center panel.

Pattern is "Bon Appetit" by Bunny Hill Designs.

No, I didn't follow directions too well.....again. LOL

What did I change?
1. Made all the ties longer (I always do this on aprons).
2. Made the pocket 2 inches longer and 2 inches wider.
3. Instead of turning my edges, I curved the corners and used purchased white double folded bias tape.
4. On two of the aprons I cut the waistband wider and longer (for us "wider and longer people..LOL).
5. On one of the aprons I cut the two side panels 2.5 inches narrower (for those that are narrower).

Yes, this is the kind of day I love. I spent most of today in my sewing room, not only cutting out two quilt tops but I also finished blocks 8,9, 10 and 11 of the jelly roll BOM. Now I am completely caught up on this BOM.

I have been using the Gobble Gobble line of fabric by Sandy Gervais.

Machine now cleaned and covered. Next - clean up counter tops.

Tomorrow - NO SEWING before the cleaning chores are done.......HONEST !!!!!
