Antimacassar - had to look this one up!

Do you know what "antimacassar" means? Not to worry, neither did I until CJ told me.  I've had to ask her more than once to remind me what the word was..LOL   I had to look up the spelling today.

With that being said, here's a sneak peak of the "2" antimacassars I am putting together.  They'll be simple ones from charm packs.

And "IF" you did not know what "antimacassar" meant - I copied and pasted it from the internet dictionary:

Antimacassar - noun:  a piece of ornamented cloth that protects the back of chair from hair oils

Now you know.  (If only I could remember that darned word, LOL)

I didn't know that. And, I love learning new words. Sounds like a good one for a spelling bee contest.

Beautiful fabric. Going to make beautiful Antimacassars.

Yup, they used to wear oily stuff in their hair to keep it in place (I think it was called macassar) and so they made the covers to protect their furniture. I had to look up the word once when I ran into it in an old book. Can't wait to see yours!

Ahh...that is a very "old" word. I remember when my grandmothers had crocheted antimacassars. Trust me, they will not stay in place on a leather recliner!
